Pete's Charity Shop Music Bargains - Clifford T Ward - Gaye and Other Stories
Good charity shop purchase last week - Clifford T Ward - Gaye and Other Stories. Superb 20 track compilation opening with CTW's best remembered track Gaye, the track Scullery is also on there. I seem to recall Clifford as a regular on the Old Grey Whistle Test, back in the day, but I had no idea he was from the Stourport/Kidderminster area. Clifford started his career winning a Midlands band competition in 1963 with a beat band, called Cliff Ward and the Cruisers. For a short time he was a teacher in Bromsgrove and some of his tracks featured a choir of his school kids. His daughter was born with cerebral palsy and he was very involved in fund raising for CP charities, Clifford himself was diagnosed with MS in 1987 but continued to write and record songs until his death in 2001. What a good find - I am definately a retrospective Clifford T Ward convert - beautiful, soft & gentle, melodic, lyrically fine music.
