One of the county’s most successful Festivals will welcome an internationally recognised violinist this year.

Esther Abrami – who studied at The Royal College of Music and completed her Master’s Degree at The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, for which she received a full scholarship - will perform at the Elgar Festival, the annual celebration of the life and music of Worcestershire’s most famous composer, on Friday 31 May, one of the Festival’s two late night Club Elgar events.

In 2019, the French born 26 year old became the first classical musician to win the ‘Social Media Superstar’ category at The Global Awards and in 2021 she was featured in Classic FM’s ’30 under 30 Classical Artists to Watch’ series, curated by Julian Lloyd Webber and was listed as a ‘Rising Star’ by BBC Music Magazine.  In the same year she was signed to Sony Classical and made her Roya; Albert Hall debut in 2022.

The event will be held in Worcester’s historic Guildhall, starting at 9.30pm.  Esther will be performing pieces from her latest album Cinéma - which was released in September 2023 – a captivating collection of new arrangements for violin and orchestra of film and TV scores, classical music from the movies, anime hits and new compositions by Oscar winning composers.

Kenneth Woods, Artistic Director of The Elgar Festival said: “We are so thrilled to be welcoming Esther to this year’s Festival; her dazzling talent, infectious personality and boundless enthusiasm for music making make her one of the most promising young classical artists of her generation.  Cinéma really showcases Esther’s versatility, musical sensitivity and technical mastery.”

Tickets cost £10.00 per person; a cash bar will be available.

During the Festival, Esther will also be at Huntingdon Hall at 1.00pm on Friday 31 May, with a programme including Vaughan Williams’ ‘The Lark Ascending’ and a selection of Elgar Miniatures; tickets for this event are also £10.00 per person.

Themed ‘The Origins of Inspiration’, this year’s Festival will combine orchestral, chamber, vocal and choral concerts with exhibits and lectures to celebrate the life and music of Sir Edward Elgar at various venues across Worcestershire.  It will bring together an array of internationally renowned guest artists, placing the music of Worcester’s most famous son alongside that of his contemporaries and some of today’s leading composers and arrangers.

Launched in 2018, the Elgar Festival was established by decree of Worcester City Council and is traditionally held on the weekend closest to Elgar’s birthday, 2 June 1857.

Since it began – lauded as ‘Critic’s Pick’ in both The Guardian and The Times – the Festival has doubled in size and scale and championed Sir Edward to as wide an audience as possible.
